Text and Author: An Introduction to Mathematical Reasoning, numbers, sets and functions, by Peter Eccles.
Purpose of Course: The course is a gateway to the mathematics major, a foundation for abstract reasoning and arguments needed for higher level mathematics courses.
Credit hours: 3
Prerequisites: Grade of C or better in Math 181
and approval by the Department.
Grading:
Hour Exams (2) 40%
Homework 20%
Final Exam 40%
Homework: Written assignements due on at the beginning of class on indicated dates. No late homework accepted. Several lowest grades will be dropped. Solutions to homework problems will be posted on the course homepage.
For more practice it is suggested that you do as many of the problems in the text as you can. Their solutions can be found in the back of the book.
