The Masters of Natural Science is an established interdisciplinary degree offered by the Department of Mathematics. It is currently being evaluated to refocus on scientific computing and visualization (e.g. in the aerospace industry and in national labs.)
For detailed information see the program's own webpage at http://math.la.asu.edu
Students take classes in computational and applied mathematics and, in addition, 12 credit hours of graduate level courses in engineering. Typically, students take classes in computer science, electrical engineering, or mechanical engineering.
The program has existed since 1980. The program will be refocused to offer the student more guidance and coherence and a professional orientation towards careers in the high tech industry and research labs. Internships at local industry are planned.
Since 1996, 2 or 3 students have graduated from this program each year.
