This program is specifically designed to prepare students in the mathematical sciences for careers in contemporary industry or business.
For detailed information see the program's own webpage at http://www.math.umass.edu/Progs_Events/Grad_Program/new_applmath.html
This two-year professional degree program has been in existence since 1989.
Most students fall into the following two categories: 1. mathematics majors who seek to broaden their knowledge of applied mathematics, scientific computing and subjects in mathematics-related fields (such as Computer Science, Engineering, or Finance). 2. Majors from mathematically-oriented fields (such as Physics or Engineering ) who desire a deeper knowledge of mathematical methods and computational techniques.
For over ten years, the program has continually produced successful graduates who have secured positions with companies ranging from small, local firms to large, international corporations. The students receive thorough training in applied mathematics, scientific computing, and a variety of mathematics-related subjects in science and engineering. A unique feature of this program is the annual group project in which all enrolled students participate. The project offers the students experience in industrial-type teamwork.
