Financial Mathematics is advised by a Steering Committee with faculty from the 5 departments: Economics, Finance, Mathematics (chairing), Risk Management, and Statistics.
This program was started in 1998.
The academic backgrounds of students vary - economics, statistics, finance, and computer science in addition to mathematics. Some students are returning to school after work experience in these fields. All want to work in some capacity as Financial Engineers.
