Current Students
Welcome!
Welcome to the ASCEND summer program. This page provides the information you'll need in order to make the transition to UIC as smooth as possible.
Accounts
In order to sign up for classes, sign in to the computers in an ACCC computer lab, and access your student account, you'll need to activate your NetID and claim your Enterprise ID. You should cover all of these steps in Orientation, but here are the basics:
- To activate your NetID, you'll need your UIN, SSN, and birth date
- If you don't know your UIN, click here to retrieve it (have your SSN handy!)
- Visit the NetID activation website and follow the steps to activate your NetID and set a Common Password
- Claim your Enterprise ID -- used for registering classes and viewing your student account
- Log into Blackboard just to test if you're remembering your NetID and Common Password correctly
- Log into UIC Web for Student in order to make sure you remember your Enterprise ID and Enterprise password
- If you wish, create a UIC email account (you'll want to create a Mailserv account)
- Configure your email forwarding so that email to your UIC account goes to the correct place
Notes about UIC Computer Accounts
- Since you set your Common Password and your Enterprise password at different times, note that you may set these to be different passwords. If you do so, remember which is which!
- It's highly, highly recommended that you establish password recovery mechanisms for your Common Password
- If you forget your Common Password, click here
- If you like to use UNIX, create an Icarus account (it's under the same link used to create your Mailserv account). You can use your Icarus account in order to SSH into icarus.uic.edu
- Never, ever share your passwords or account information -- not even with your parents. You agree to this when you activate your NetID
- For help with ACCC accounts and UIC computing issues, call 312-413-0003 during normal business hours. Alternatively, you may email consult@uic.edu at any time.
- Check out the my.UIC portal, which is a gateway into many different resources you'll be using on campus.
ALEKS
For those students who use ALEKS this summer: We've been informed that all students should use the following course code when registering: KAEGG-RWQJP. After the students have registered, please note that this information will be taken down.
Maple
Calculus students will be using the computer algebra system Maple in the computer lab. There's a huge selection of Maple tutorials available on the Web. Here are a couple:
Group Pages
If your group would like to have its own web page on this site, tell your ASCEND TA. Once class starts in the Fall, you'll be heavily using class websites and Blackboard to access course information, announcements, and even grades. Having a group page is a great way to get accustomed to this.
ASCEND Twitter
ASCEND is on Twitter! If you'd like to participate, check out the info regarding that here. The ASCEND Twitter page is here.
