Accessing Files in Your Department Account from Mac OS X


The department offers an AppleShare server, which provides direct access to your files stored in your department account from your Mac OS X desktop. This includes files stored in your home directory and your personal web site in your public_html folder.

  1. In the Finder, pull down the "Go" menu and choose "Connect to Server"
  2. In the Server Address text box, type
    afp.math.uic.edu
  3. Click "Connect"
  4. When prompted, type your username and password, and click "Connect"
  5. Choose your username in the list of volumes, and click "OK"

A server icon will appear on your desktop. The name of the icon will be your username. Inside, you will find the files stored in your department account, including your public_html folder.

If you are responsible for the shared web site of a course and are looking for the web pages belonging to a course, follow these instructions instead:

  1. In the Finder, pull down the "Go" menu and choose "Connect to Server"
  2. In the Server Address text box, type
    afp.math.uic.edu
  3. Click "Connect"
  4. When prompted, type your username and password, and click "Connect"
  5. Choose "Course WWW Pages" in the list of volumes, and click "OK"

A server icon named "Course WWW Pages" will appear on your desktop. Inside, you will find folders belonging to courses, including the public_html folder for each course.
