Research Assistant Professor
Research Assistant Professorship. This is a non-tenure track position, normally renewable annually to a maximum of three years. This position carries a teaching responsibility of three courses per year, and the expectation that the incumbent play a significant role in the research life of the Department. The salary for AY2013-2014 for this position is $60,000. Director of Research Operations: The Department of Mathematics, Statistics, and Computer Science (MSCS) at the University of Illinois at Chicago is seeking a qualified candidate for the position of Director of Research Operations. This is a full-time Academic Professional Position. This position is responsible for the management of research proposals, grants, contracts, subcontracts, from proposal application to closeout and directs the funding of application processes and administration of research proposals. This position will research, write and lead proposal and reporting efforts on grant awards and contracts for the MSCS Department. Serves as resource for research faculty and acts as a liaison for grant related issues with other campus units, the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research, Grants and Contracts, along with external government and private funding agencies. Advises the Head and Department Manager on all matters related to fiscal management of the Department's financial resources. Establishes and implements policies and procedures for the administration of research projects.
Duties: Lead proposal development efforts, including: identification of faculty expertise and resources; planning and writing non-technical portions of proposals; institutional data acquisition; proposal drafting, editing and formatting; budget/justification preparation (including coordination of subcontract budgets); negotiation of cost sharing agreements. Oversee, analyze and manage all aspects of local and federal grants related to the MSCS Department (averaging 70 plus grants/year). Recommend possible courses of action, establish new procedures, and initiate changes in existing procedures to increase the operating efficiency of the Department as it relates to grants. Research sponsor requirements at proposal state and ensure compliance prior to application submission. Identify and inform investigators in the Department of funding opportunities matching their interests and backgrounds. Direct funding application process and administer research proposals and subcontracts. Manage expenses, submitting regular financial and narrative reports to the Department and to the grantor on behalf of the Department. Hire, train and manage staff; plan, assign and review their work, ensuring that objectives are being met.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree required in Management, Accounting or Finance or a related field; related Master's degree preferred. Minimum of five years' experience in a research setting required performing research or research management with skills in grant and contract preparation, financial planning, and computer based data storage and retrieval. Detailed knowledge of grant principles, electronic proposal submission requirements and federal regulations and guidelines governing the conduct of research required. Excellent communication, management, leadership, organization and presentation skills are required.
