TA Resources
Teaching Assistants
TAs are encouraged to use the website to identify their office location or assigned MSLC office hour, to request a teaching assignment, or to access a variety of forms to renew aid or request an Independent Study course, just to name a few.
The TA Handbook
outlines the duties and responsibilities of MSCS TAs. As indicated, teaching appointments are awarded at 25% and 50% funding levels and include a Tuition and Service Fee Waiver. Duties include teaching, holding office hours in the MSLC, and grading.
The Nuts and Bolts Guide
provides helpful information to assist new TAs, fellows, and RAs in their transition to the MSCS department. Search this resource to find out where the mailboxes are, how to obtain email and computer access, where to pick up an office key, and more.
Teaching Assignments
TA teaching assignments can be viewed on the UIC Online Schedule and through the Student Registration system. Teaching assignments are viewable beginning with Week 0. If you do not find your name on either the MCS or Math course listings, contact us at dgs@math.uic.edu.
Teaching Schedule
TAs are required to submit their course schedule each semester, outlining all times throughout the week that they are not available to teach. TAs typically teach the discussion sections of a large lecture course. Teaching duties for most TAs occur on Tuesdays and Thursdays, but TAs must also be available during the lecture on MWF to help proctor exams.
The MSCS Graduate Student Schedule
form provides an opportunity to indicate which courses you have previously taught and which courses you wish to teach in the future as well as any special circumstances that may affect your teaching.
