Some Recommended Hotels (near UIC)

10 minute walk
  • Crown Plaza Hotel - 733 West Madison (Madison & Halsted). A little pricy, but nice. On Halsted at the north end of Greektown. Phone 312-602-2118 (Front Desk), ask for UIC rates - $180/night. The speakers will be staying here.

  • Holiday Inn Suites - 506 West Harrison (east of campus along Harrison). The closest budget hotel near campus. Phone 312-957-9100 (Front Desk), ask for UIC rates. Have reserved block of 9 rooms with double beds at $109/night, perfect for graduate students. Email Steve Hurder to claim one of these - first come, first serve.

  • Marriott Chicago at Medical Center - 625 South Ashland Avenue (Ashland & Harrison). Close to the Medical Center complex, if you want to check out the set location for the television show "ER". A bit pricy. Phone 312-491-1234 (Front Desk), ask for UIC rates.

Downtown and elsewhere
  • J. Ira & Nicki Harris Family Hostel - 24 East Congress Parkway (Wabash Avenue & Congress). This not-so-well-known gem is an amazing value. The location is fabulous, and the walk to campus is maybe 25-30 minutes. The Art Institute Chicago is a 5 minute walk from here, and Millennium Park is a 10 minute walk.

  • Congress Plaza Hotel - 520 South Michigan Avenue (Michigan Avenue & Congress). This is one of the classic Chicago hotels, which is now a bit dowdy and relatively cheap, but what a great location, directly across from Grant Park. Phone 312-427-3800 (Reservations) and ask for UIC rates $139/night (or possibly less.) The Art Institute Chicago and and Millennium Park are a 5 minute walk from here. And UIC campus is due west, about a 25 minute walk.

  • Hilton Chicago - 720 South Michigan Avenue (Michigan Avenue & Harrison). Just south on Michigan Avenue from the Congress Plaza Hotel, a more upscale hotel with the same great location as the Congress. Phone 312-922-4400.

  • The Palmer House Hilton - 17 East Monroe Street. The Classic Chicago Hotel, and not as expensive as the newer fashionista places north of the river on Oak Street. Probably no celebrities, but what ambience. Phone 312-726-7500.

  • Sheraton Hotel - 301 East North Water Street. Not even close to UIC, but maybe you came here to shop for upscale presents, and not upscale theorems. Phone 312-464-1000.

  • Days Inn Lakeview/Lincoln Park - 644 West Diversey Parkway. A standard hotel on the north side of the city, in the middle of a bustling and young neighborhood, close to public transportation, restaurants, the lake. To UIC, take #8 Halsted bus or trains from Diversey station.
