The University of Illinois at Chicago invites you and your CPS colleagues to the:
October 26 CPS-UIC Math Forum
(an expansion of the former Algebra Symposium)
Interact with your fellow teachers and share experiences of developing challenging mathematics programs for all students. How do we obtain both deep understanding and computational fluency? Please save November 30th (last Thursday of the month) for the next independent workshop. Come as a group for some departmental team-building. There are stipends and CPDU credits. Sign up as noted below to reserve your slot for:
Real Life Situations: Money and Math -- if only the IRS and SSA used functions and graphs
Do your students know about deductions from paychecks? Can you determine whether the proper withholding amounts are being deducted from your checks? Which piecewise linear function represents tax brackets for your situation? What's the interaction between teacher pensions and Social Security and Windfall Exclusion? Why is a geometric series useful for financial calculations? How much of this is taught in other schools?
Instructor: Professor John Masley (jmmasley@uic.edu)
Schedule: October 26, 4:30 - 7:30, Room 219, 2nd Floor Taft Hall (TH)
CPS Teacher Benefits: $56 stipend and 3 CPDU credits
