Fall 2006 CPS-UIC Math Forum

(an expansion of the former Algebra Symposium)

We will continue giving teachers a chance to interact and share experiences with one another around a common theme related to high school math teaching. Come as a group for some departmental team-building. There are stipends and CPDU credits. Sign up as noted below to reserve your space for Thurs., Nov 30. We will have two workshop sessions - one based on classroom problems which the audience brings up, the other a "Déjà vu" of some past Forum activities.

  • 4:30 Sign-in, beverages, networking
  • 4:45 Welcome, Brainstorming Troublesome Situations in Math Classes (for example: minus vs. negative, rules which stop being true in later classes); Open Discussion on methods for dealing with those situations
  • 5:55 Giordano's pizza
  • 6:30 Various workshops - bring copies of final exams or other pertinent math assessments; we'll re-run three of our past workshops
  • 7:15 Wrap-up, survey, parking stickers and forms; selection of Spring dates
  • Anatoly Libgober (libgober@uic.edu) and John Masley (jmmasley@uic.edu) welcome your suggestions for topics.

    $56 stipend and 3 CPDU credits
