The University of Illinois at Chicago invites you and your CPS colleagues to the:
Spring 2008 CPS-UIC Math Forum

Which graph shows increasing distance?
Partial answer: They all do if the vertical axis represents velocity.
How do items like speed and distance come up in math courses? What are common student misconceptions about graphing these items against time? What should they know at what level?
John Baldwin and John Masley will lead discussions on the impact of these and similar problems to Chicago classrooms based on recent observations of related lessons in a real classroom. Come as a group for some departmental team-building. Our grant has expired so there is no stipend, but we.ll provide a light dinner, 3 CPDU credits, and parking reimbursement for this time if you bring your parking ticket to the meeting.
4:30 to 4:45: Sign in, informal networking
4:45: Welcome and introduction of the questions for small group discussion.
5:00: Small group workshops and networking
5:35: Readouts from the small groups to the whole team.
