- Courses in Middle School Philosophy and Curriculum (CIE 484) and in Adolescent Psychology (EPSY 466) will be arranged in consultation with the participant, completing all requirements for the endorsement.
- Each course earns graduate credit. The mathematics courses fulfill five of the nine courses required for UIC's Master of Science in Teaching Mathematics. (Teachers should apply for the MST early in this program to ensure that all courses apply to the degree.)
- Courses are taught by university faculty who have extensive experience with teachers, children, schools, curricula, and communities. UIC faculty have presented at numerous professional conferences the approaches, insights, and material that are incorporated in courses for teachers.
- Courses give teachers a depth of knowledge of mathematics along with thoughtful strategies for motivating students and evaluating student progress.
- Courses weave appropriate use of technology, manipulatives, and classroom activities.
- Chicago Public Schools will subsidize teachers' tuition. Further subsidies will come from UIC-grants.
Tuition and Registration
Tuition for courses offered through the UIC Office of Continuing Education during Spring 2006 was $296 per credit hour, plus a $15 per credit hour non-refundable administrative fee. The tuition subsidy and amount of tuition for Spring 2007 will be posted later.
CPS teachers are eligible for the following subsidies. CPS will determine your eligibility for the tuition subsidy. Please note that your enrollment cannot be processed without your payment.
Teachers in special CPS programs (e.g. C4MGM) may receive further subsidies.
