Departmental Scholarships

The Herb Alexander Award, Louise Hay Award, and the Cathy Hill Cawthon Award (women only) are given for academic excellence to MSCS upperclassmen and women. Students apply for all awards with one application. Applications are available in SEO 322 in January, and are submitted there.

Nicholas A. Yassan Award - Sept. Deadline

  • Undergraduate or graduate students in the Department of Mathematics, Statistics and Computer Science
  • Must be in good academic standing with a minimum 3.0/4.0 GPA
  • Minimum of 60 semester hours completed at UIC (junior standing).
  • Minimum of eight credit hours completed in the Department of Mathematics, Statistics and Computer Science
  • Preference given to women.

Note:The recipient must be able to attend the LAS Recognition Dinner on Thursday evening, November 3. The recipient will need to prepare thank you remarks for when he/she receives their award. He/she will be able to bring one guest. Business attire is required.

Professor Herbert Alexander Award

  • Undergraduate or graduate students in the Department of Mathematics, Statistics and Computer Science
  • Must be majoring in Mathematics, Statistics and Computer Science
  • Must be in good academic standing with a minimum of 3.0/4.0 GPA.

The Mario V. and Edith J. Gambardella Student Award - Sept. 23 Deadline

  • LAS scholarship
  • Student of Italian descent
  • Must be in good academic standing with a minimum of 2.0/4.0 GPA.
