Residence Halls Summer Housing Information


Check in/Check out


Residence Halls and Commons (RH&C) provides 24 hour/ 7 days per week desk clerk staff to assist Department with the check-in/registration process and with the check-out process.


  1. Department staff and participants must check in/check out at the front desk of Max Palevsky Central.


  1. Max Palevsky Central is located at 1101 E. 56th Street.


(c) Failure to check-out by specified time will result in an automatic additional charge of one night’s stay
at the departments applicable nightly rate. Exceptions to the check-in and check-out times must be
approved in advance by RH&C.



Palevsky will have security in place from 8PM until 6AM The entrance doors for Palevsky East are armed with propping alarms. Therefore, if anyone props the door open for more than 60 seconds, an alarm will sound. Palevsky East should only be accessed through the front doors (I think they're purple) or the basement which connects to Palevsky Central.



Vickie or Danielle will be available M-F from 5PM - 8PM for any questions (located in the lounge)



All bonafide conference guests will have a key that will gain him or her access to any external door in the Palevsky complex. If someone is trying to get in to the building without a key, direct them to Max Palevsky Central. This is a security feature for both your members as well as our buildings.

Telephones & Mail


There are direct dial phones in each room. With these phones you may make and receive both local
and long distance calls. Long distance calls must be collect, person to person, or calling card.

(NSIT) by calling (773) 702-9100.


Mail can be picked up at Max Palevsky Central between the hours of 10am and 6pm

Linen


  1. Linen will be provided during your stay. This includes flat and fitted sheets, blankets, pillows, pillow case, and towels (bath, hand & face.) You may exchange your linens every Friday from 7am to 9am at the front desk.


Overnight Guests


  1. Overnight guests are not allowed to stay in the residence halls with conference members.


Room Assignments

  1. Room assignments must be complete 2 weeks prior to check-in date. Minimal changes may be made to the assignments after this time with RH&C’s approval.


Keys


  1. Participants residing on campus will receive keys to their assigned rooms as well as the front entrance

of the assigned residence hall. These keys may not be duplicated.


  1. If a key is lost and/or not returned, the Department will be charged lost key fees of $25.00 per key or key card


Laundry rooms are available in the basement of each building. Signs are posted for your convenience. Each load will cost 75 cents to wash and 75 cents to dry. If you have problems with a machine, please inform the front desk.


Transportation/Parking


By prearrangement with the Parking Office, a University Guest may be given permission to park in certain locations. The guest or host should contact the Parking Office in advance and obtain a Temporary Parking Permit, which should be displayed from the vehicle’s rear view mirror while on campus. Please call the Parking Office at (773) 702-8969 for locations and current parking rates.


All University parking lots are free of charge from 4:00 p.m. to 7:50 a.m.


Parking is limited at the University of Chicago, however the University has several forms of mass transportation throughout Hyde Park and the Chicago area.

Recreational Opportunities


The common areas of our dorms include TV, video games, pool table, music room, ect (items vary by buildings.)


University departments hosting conferences who wish to gain information and/or access to the U of C athletic facilities should call 773-753-4680.
