To "publish" your web page using Netscape Composer, first save it to a diskette or the desktop. (Choose Save from the File menu.) Then choose Publish from the file menu.
A new window should appear on your screen. Choose a title for your page.
(It is unfortunate that Netscape insists on downloading all images to the local directory rather than linking to remote images. In most cases, this is a copyright violation; please be careful when using pictures found on the Web.)
In the space labeled "Upload files to this location", enter the machine you have an account on, the location of your home directory, and your file name. For me, this looks like:
ftp://tigger.uic.edu/homes/home8/burgiel/public_html/index.html
For another user, it might look like:
ftp://icarus.uic.edu/homes/home3/mdorka3/public_html/index.html
You may need to telnet to icarus and enter the command pwd (for Print Working Directory) to find the location of your home directory. (E.g. /homes/home3/mdorka3.)
Enter your netid in the "User name" field and your password in the "Password" field. DO NOT check the "Save password" box.
If there are other files on your floppy disk (pictures, backgrounds, other web pages, etc.) that are used by your home page, check the button labeled "All files in page's folder" and select the necessary files from the list. (Uploading extra files is unlikely to hurt anything. Not uploading enough files might leave your home page with broken links or images.)
Click the "OK" button.
Return to the Netscape Navigator window and check to see that your
page was successfully published. Users with accounts on icarus may
need to use addresses of the form:
http://www2.uic.edu/~mdorka3/index.html
while those with accounts on tigger can use:
http://www.uic.edu/~burgiel/index.html
