FINAL PROJECTS
Mtht 480
One of the goals of Mtht 480 is to research some aspect of computer
use in elementary classrooms and share your findings with your
classmates. You may combine your efforts with one or more of your
classmates; all members of the group will be given the same final
grade on their report. You will be given time (approximately 15
minutes per person working on the project) to present your research to
your classmates on the last day of class. In the event that the last
day of class is snowed out, please submit a written report of
approximately two pages per group member in length to Heidi Burgiel no
later than the end of finals week.
The following are suggested topics for final projects:
- Discussion of some aspect of LOGO or BASIC programming.
- How computer use in the classroom can satisfy the NCTM Standards,
and/or what the Standards say about computers in the classroom.
- Using the World Wide Web to teach elementary mathematics.
- Discussion of using computers in conjunction with a popular textbook.
- Software reviews.
- Discussion of pros and cons of using computers in labs, in classroom work
stations, and in teacher demonstrations.
- Computers and assessment (how do you know they're learning?)
- Study of computerized lessons, computer generated quizzes, etc.
