Syllabus for
Applied Mathematics Option
of Masters Exam


The written Master's Examination (Applied Mathematics option) examination has 12 questions and is based on the following courses:
  1. Math 310 or 320 Applied Linear Algebra or Linear Algebra I - 2 questions
  2. Math 410, 411 Advanced Calculus I, II - 2 questions
  3. Math 417 Complex Analysis with Applications - 2 questions
  4. Math 480 Applied Differential Equations - 3 questions
  5. Math 481 Applied Partial Differential Equations - 3 questions.
There will be two sets of three questions in complex analysis, one made up by a pure mathematician and the other by an applied mathematician, and each set will labelled to make the distinction clear. Students answering questions from both sets will get no credit for complex analysis questions.
