Homa: ========================================================================= One other thing. Every user, yourself included, has access to a GUI on the cluster. The command to access the GUI is scadesktop and the configuration file for it is in your ~HOME/.scali directory. The GUI requires an X-window or X-window emulation package like Exceed, which I use and is on all ACCC computers. To access the cluster GUI: o Set your DISPLAY environmental variable to the X-window server (in my case, that is my desktop machine which runs Exceed) o Start the X-window emulation package o Enter scadesktop command on the cluster o Double click on the argo 16-node icon in the Scali Universe screen o Enter your netid and password in the Login screen The "Scali Universe - argo 16 node screen" will appear. This the main screen of the GUI. ========================================================================= Note: We Probably will be working on clusters in this order: PSC TCS, UIC Argo or Alternate, NCSA Platinum to work with a well-developed cluster first and our biggest cluster last so we make make the most intelligent use of Platinum (currently listed with 968 compute processors (484 compute nodes with a SMP 4-pack of processors each, but we will only be able to use a fraction of those for any one project and that is still a lot).
