How does ALM assist teachers and schools? ALM helps:

  • schools identify problems with curriculum, instruction, and evaluation.
  • schools create strategies and solutions for addressing problems.
  • schools develop long-range mathematics improvement plans.
  • schools develop a mathematics instructional plan.
  • teachers build upon their mathematics knowledge and pedagogy.
  • teachers adopt Standards-based lessons and alternative assessments.
  • teachers integrate mathematics and other subject areas.

ALM initiative coordinators assist teachers in the classroom by:

  • co-teaching lessons
  • observing teaching or peer teaching for the purpose of discussing strategies and concerns.
  • working with small groups of students in the classroom.

ALM introduces teachers to curricula which meet the NCTM Curriculum Standards and make use of technology. ALM teachers use standards based curricula such as Maneuvers with Mathematics, Connected Mathematics, Math Trailblazers, Investigations in Number, Data, and Space, or Everyday Math.
