In this lecture we showed how to use Splines in Maple. First we observed the resemblance with the basis functions of compact support we used in finite elements methods. Then we saw how well the spline approximation preserves the shape (in particular the derivatives) of the function that is approximated. We ended with an illustration of geometric design.
