Undergraduate Research Program

Undergraduate students are given the opportunity to work with faculty in science, mathematics and engineering in a research project. Students receive 3 credit hours and an AMP stipend. They are also eligible to present their work at appropriate research conferences. One Physics student presented her research findings at the Conference on Diversity in Science and Technological Workforce in the fall of 1995. Two MSCS students and one staff member attended the Third Annual AMP Research Conference in the summer of 1995. Two Physics students attended the National Conference of Black Physics in the spring of 1996. Seven students attended the First Annual Chicago AMP Research Conference, two presented their findings. And one Engineering student will attend the Fourth Annual AMP Research Conference in the summer of 1996.

This year AMP supported ten undergraduate students' research. Two in the fall and eight in the spring. Since the spring of 1995 AMP has awarded sixteen undergraduate students with research stipends in the following fields: 4 in Electrical Engineering, 3 in Mathematics, Statistics and Computer Science, 2 each in Biological Sciences, Physics and Computer Engineering, and 1 student each in Civil Engineering, Computer Science, and Mechanical Engineering.
