• HERE you will find general information about syllabus, sample midterms and sample final exams.

  • Office Hours:
  • Monday 11-12, Wednesday 10-12, Friday 11-12.

  • Grading Policies:
  • The course grade is based on the total number of points from a one-hour midterm examination (scheduled on Friday, October 20), homework & quizzes, and the final exam. The points are distributed as follows: Homework and quizzes - 100 points total; Midterm - 100 points; Final Exam (scheduled for Tuesday, December 12, 8:00 to 10:00 am in TH 219)- 200 points.

Homework will be assigned weekly. You are encouraged to discuss homework problems with your fellow students. Working in groups makes the explanation of approaches and solutions a part of the process and helps you learn. Your goal is to find solutions and to communicate your work in a convincing manner.

While I encourage you to use calculators on homework, I will NOT be allowing the use of calculators on the exams.

The points for homework/quizzes will be distributed as follows: I'll only check the homework for completeness (no grade will be assigned), however the quizzes will consist of homework problems. There will be 6 quizzes, but only your best 5 will count for your grade, 20 points each.

Each quiz will consist of 2 problems in the last 20 minutes of the class. This will warm you up for the final exam.
No calculators/cheetsheets/cellphones will be allowed during quizzes and final exam.

  • Homework:
  • Additional policies about the homework: First, late homework will NOT be accepted. Secondly, I must request that homework be presented neatly and properly stapled -- loose sheets are easily lost. Homework will be collected  every Friday -- you may submit it in class, or hand it to me in my office before class (during regular office hours).
