Assessment: Design and perform an experiment using correct processes, methods, techniques and available technology.
1. This was set up to be an alternative assessment to designing and conducting a lab.
2. Be sure they are prepared.
3. They should understand that a lab is just investigating a hypothesis using the scientific method.
4. Make sure they have enough time 90 minutes seems minimal.
5. Be ready for frustration. I've given too much information in some places and too little information in others. I also gave some conflicting and erroneous information. I know this'll be frustrating to students, but life is nearly never like the movies. Real investigators deal with these problems. Tell the students that and help them sort through the information. They'll probably need guidance on what info to throw out and how to make an educated guess on the stuff they can't find.
6. My rubric for grading is still under construction
7. I'm working on a way to get this onto your classroom computer easily using Netscape or Internet Explorer on local files. It'll be out sometime.
