Preparation of Secondary Education Teachers of Mathematics

There are two main target groups for this program. Track I is concerned with preparation of secondary education teachers of mathematics for candidates who have an undergraduate major in mathematics but little or no teacher education. Track II is for preparation of secondary education teachers of mathematics for those with New York State teacher certification in an area other than mathematics.

  The program started in 1995.

  Students with an undergraduate major in mathematics but little or no teacher education and secondary education teachers who have NYS teacher certification in an area other than mathematics.

  There is a comprehensive examination with two parts: one part is on the required course work in mathematics; the other is in mathematics education.

  Positions as adjunct professors in the department of mathematics and statistics or in education may be available.
