The Masters of Arts in Teaching Mathematics degree program is designed for those who plan a teaching career in the secondary schools, two-year colleges, public schools, or small liberal arts colleges. Admission in to the program requires certification or consent of the Program Supervisor.
For detailed information see the program's own webpage at http://www.bgsu.edu/departments/math/
The Masters of Arts in Teaching Mathematics degree is offered by the Department of Mathematics and Statistics.
This degree has been offered since 1969.
Students should be certified to teach and have a background in math or math education. Many are high school teachers who attend part-time; all hope to teach at high schools or two- or four-year colleges
Financial aid is available to qualified students in the form of teaching assistantships ($9,200- $10,000 for Masters students for nine month academic year plus full tuition and general fees). Summer support in the range of $1,370 - $2,900 is also available; new students are encouraged to participate in a six week Summer Fellowship Program which carries a stipend of $1,800. In addition, the department pays all instructional and general fees. All full-time graduate students received full funding this past year and all graduate students requesting summer support received funding this past summer. Women and minorities are especially encouraged to apply (over 50% of our funded graduate students are women and/or minorities). Current graduate students find department stipends ample for their year round expenses due to the low cost of living in Bowling Green.
