ABOUT ME:
I am a research assistant professor at UIC.
My current research interests are in algebraic statistics. Many theoretical results in the field have powerful applications to mathematical biology - specifically, phylogenetics. I am motivated by unexpected connections between fundamental concepts in statistics and phylogenetics and classical objects in commutative algebra/algebraic geometry.

My curriculum vitae can be found here.
I recieved my PhD in 2008 from the University of Kentucky under the direction of Uwe Nagel.
Some of my thoughts about my graduate school experience can be found at the UK Math Alumni Spotlight page.

ACTIVITIES:
With Ruriko Yoshida, I am co-organizing a Special Session on Advances in Algebraic Statistics, at the AMS Sectional Meeting in Lexington, KY, March 27-28 2010.

I was a research fellow at SAMSI, as a part of the 2008-2009 Program on Algebraic Methods in Systems Biology and Statistics. I actively participated in two working groups: on algebraic statistics and evolutionary biology. Read about the program in this newsletter (see page 1).

I co-organized a Special Session on Computational Algebra and Convexity at the Joint Mettings in Washington D.C., January 2009.
