Lectures on Buildings
|
|
This book, based on lectures delivered
in London and Chicago in the late 1980s, gives an introduction to the theory
of buildings, particularly those that arise in studying groups of Lie type.
These are the spherical buildings, a very important class in which the local
structure determines the global structure. The book also examines in detail
buildings of affine type, which are important in studying p-adic groups. The combinatorial approach
in the book, using chamber systems, makes it possible to treat all types of
buildings, rather than limiting attention to those, such as spherical and
affine ones, having pleasing geometric realisations. For a detailed
discussion on buildings, see the appropriate page on this website. |
Lectures
on Buildings was published by
Academic Press in 1989, and a reprint with new material will be published by
the University of Chicago Press in 2008.
