I am interested in finite groups, with connections to finite geometry, combinatorics, algebraic topology, and computer science. Click below for a brief curriculum vitae, or farther down for papers.
The joint work with Aschbacher "The classification of quasithin groups", which in particular completes the classification of the finite simple groups, has appeared as vols. 111-112 in Surveys and Monographs of the A.M.S.
Jesper Grodal and Stephen D. Smith, Propagating sharp group homology decompositions: has now appeared in Advances in Math. 200(2006), 535-538.
The joint work with Dave Benson "Classifying spaces of sporadic groups" has appeared as vol. 147 in Surveys and Monographs of the A.M.S.
