Description
Introduction to Advanced Mathematics
The aim of the course is to introduce students to the basic ideas of
mathematical reasoning and proof. The idea is to show mathematics as
a body of knowledge based on logical reasoning, and not a set of
drills.

Parts I, II and III of the text will be covered in detail, and some
topics from
Parts IV, V and VI will be covered.
Homework, Class Participation
Homework will be collected and graded on Fridays. It is important
that you do the homework regularly. You are also expected to attend class
regularly. Class participation is important and frequent absences will be noted.

Grading
There will be 2 midterm exams and a final exam. Each midterm will
count
for 20% of your final grade. The final will count for 40% and the problem
sets will count for 20%.
Midterm Exam I will be on Wednesday February 25. The exam will
cover Chapters 1-8 and 9.1.
Midterm Exam II will be on Friday April 24. It will cover Chapters
10-13, 15-17, 19.1, 19.2
The final exam will be on Tuesday May 5, 8-12 am.
It will cover Chapters 5-9, 10-13, 15-17, 19.1, 19.2
