STUDENT COUNCIL NEWS

AN UPDATE FROM THE VICE PRESIDENT...

This year's Student Council has already done many things that are fun and supported our school.

In the beginning of the year we sponsored a Chicago sports fan day and junior high Halloween dance.

This Christmas season we did tons of fun things to support this school and other organizations. We had Christmas Cheer where the students brought in Beanie Babies and books for children who wouldn't get presents. We also had a candy gram sale which we had never done before. They were suckers with a little card that students bought for their friends and family. We sold so many that we actually ran out of them! The junior high had a Christmas dance which was fun. A few days before Christmas break Student Council sponsored a Christmas spirit day where the students wore shirts and socks and ribbons to show their Christmas spirit.

After the terrible tsunami incidents the Student Council sponsored a fund raiser and all students brought in at least $2 to come to school out of uniform. We raised over $2,000 dollars for tsunami aid. We also had a collection during the week of March 14 for school supplies to send to the children who lost their schools because of the tsunami. Our students made huge contributions of school supplies and we want to thank all families for helping their children donate to this project.

During Catholic Schools Week the Student Council sponsored many activities. A food drive was held all week. We also sponsored a gummy star sale to raise money for the school. The day that the eight graders performed their play there was an out of uniform day to dress up like pirates because the play was The Lady Pirates of Captain Bree. The final activity was a St. Giles spirit day when the championship intramural volleyball team played the faculty.

Student Council sponsored a Heritage Day on March 18th. Students wore shirts, socks, and different kinds of accessories and colors to represent their nationalities. At the end of the day St. Giles Irish dance students performed for the school.

A school variety show was held on Friday, May 13th where students were able to showcase their talents for the whole school.
