Prerequisites: Grade of C or better in Math 220 - understanding of ordinary differential equations.

Tentative Topics

The course is an introduction to partial differential equations. The topics include:

  1. Heat equation, Wave equation and Laplace's equation in both one and higher dimensions.
  2. Separation of Variables, boundry value problems, Fourier Series.
  3. Sturm-Liouville eigenvalue problems, eigenfunction expansions.
  4. Green's function methods.
  5. Fourier and Laplace Transform techniques.
  6. Applications.
