MCS 261: Discrete Mathematics

Homework Assignments

The information on this and related pages applies only to Prof. Zhao's lecture of MCS 261.

The assigned homework problems will be listed here. These will be due on Fridays at the beginning of class and should be well thought out and neatly written. You may work together on the problems, but each of you should turn in your own version, written in your own words. You may not copy someone else's paper or allow another student to copy yours.

In general, the assigned problems will not be those with solutions in the back of the book, however, there will often be similar problems whose solutions you can look at. I encourage you to attempt more problems than are assigned. I have begun to include recommended problems for those of you who want more practice. I trust that if you are having trouble with a topic you will do extra problems, but you do not need to turn these in.

No late homework will be accepted. You should show and explain all of your work to receive full credit.

A Note on the Grading: The homework will be graded out of a total of 10 points each week. Two problems will be graded out of four points each, according to the following: 4 if your solution is perfect (or almost perfect), 3 if it is mostly correct, 2 if it is about half correct, 1 if partially correct. There will also be 2 points given for completion. If you have tried all of the assigned problems, you will get these 2 points.
