Contemporary Abstract Algebra
Hours: The course meets MWF at 10 a.m. 204 Taft Hall
Topics
This course gives an introduction to Abstarct Algebra.
Developing skills in mathematical reasoning is an important
part of the course.
The main results htat will be discussed are impossibility of trisections
of angles and doubling of cubes with
ruler and compass and solvability of equations in radicals.
The main difference with Math 330 is focus of concept of ring and field
and solvability of equations in radicals.
Grading and Homework
Grades will be based on midterms and homework problems assigned at
regularly. Problems will be assigned during classes.
