A Friendly Introduction to Hyperbolic Geometry
Abstract: Hyperbolic geometry comes up very frequently in geometric group theory, but courses aren't generally taught on it.
This talk aims to be a friendly introduction into the sometimes counterintuitive properties of hyperbolic geometry.
The talk will include basic visualization, geodesics, shapes, forms, isometries, my favorite shape, and a computer game recommendation.
All are welcome, from undergrads in the math department to fellow geometry graduate students to professors, although the topic will likely be quite introductory.
