Commutators and Diffeomorphisms of Surfaces
Abstract: We will give a quasimorphism of $Diff_0(S,Area)$ for S a torus or a surface with genus at least two in the spirit of Paul's talk last week. Time permitting, we will show that the vector space of quasimorphisms of $Diff_0^{\infty}(D^2,area)$ is infinite dimensional by building infinitely many linearly independent quasimorphisms using braids.
