A computational algebraic geometry package for computing with graphical models
Abstract: This talk will describe the highlights of how to use the package ``GraphicalModels.m2".
The package is used to construct ideals corresponding to discrete graphical models, as described in several places, including the
paper: Garcia, Stillman and Sturmfels, "The algebraic geometry of Bayesian networks", J. Symbolic Comput., 39(3-4):331~V355, 2005.
The package also constructs Gaussian ideals, as described in the paper by Seth Sullivant: "Algebraic geometry of Gaussian Bayesian
networks", Adv. in Appl. Math. 40 (2008), no. 4, 482--513.
In addition to the basic constructions, we can use the functions of the package together with other functions in Macaulay2 and
numerical interfaces to gain more information about a given graphical model.
We will survey some of the basic examples. Also, we will see how straightforward it is to write a package for Macaulay2!
