Rourke's Torus-Spun Welded Knots
Abstract: For every classical knot (of any dimension) there is a 'torus spun' knot one dimension higher which can be described in two different
ways:
(1) Revolve the knot about an axis, or (2) Replace each point of the knot diagram with a circle in a copy of the plane.
The extension of these
methods to virtual or 'welded' knots in dimension one was Rourke's original motivation to study these objects. Following Rourke, we
examine a possible extension to virtual knots in dimension two.
