Abstract: Twisted ribbons are instrumental in defining both orientable and non-orientable surfaces bounded by a knot. This talk will begin with three generic perturbations of a rotating line segment. The Seifert algorithm and generalizations will be reviewed for constructing surfaces bounded by knots. From these surfaces, embedded and immersed 2-fold branched covers of the 3-sphere into 5-space are demonstrated. An interesting feature of the smoothing hypercube is that each node can be used to represent one of these ambeddings of the branched covers. Some exploration of how these are related will be explored.
