-For Quiz 11, study: antiderivatives e.g. 4.8#25,27,35, Approximate area under curves and sums, e.g. 5.1 # 21, 27, Definite integrals, e.g. 5.2 #19, FTOC, e.g. 5.3 #31, 11, 51, 77.
-Quiz 10 will be on limits and L’Hopital’s Rule on Thurs, Nov 11
-I will not be in the MLC on Wed, Nov 23rd (the day before Thanksgiving) ; instead I will be there on Friday, Nov 12 at 3-4pm.
-The math department is accepting nominations for the Fall TA Teaching Award. The last day for nominations is Friday, Nov 18th.
-Quiz 9 solutions (typo: 1st answer should be in in/min, not in^2/min)
-Upcoming schedule:
Thurs Oct 27: Quiz 8 on monotonicity, concavity, extrema, inflection points, curve sketching etc.
Tues Nov 1st: Quiz 9 on word problems: related rates and optimization. You should be doing lots of practice at interpreting and doing the word problems from your book.
Friday Nov 4th: Midterm 2
-For Quiz 7, review related rates and the first derivative test.
-Midterm 2 is on Friday, Nov 4th. You should start studying and reviewing for that midterm. We will do review problems and practice exams in discussion for the tuesday and thursday before the exam, like we did for Exam 1. If you have any general questions or specific problems that you don’t understand, you should go to the MLC for help, but you can also email them to me so that I can discuss them in class that week during our review sessions (time permitting, depending on how many questions I receive.)
-Practice problems for Quiz 6: 3.8 #35, 3.9 #39,51, 3.10 #19
-Quiz 5 will cover implicit differentiation. You should practice problems on that, and also review the chain rule (in general, and how it relates to implicit differentiation.)
-It turns out there is no schedule conflict, so I will have my Friday MLC hour as usual this week (9/30).
-For Quiz 4, you should practice doing derivatives both using the definition of the derivative and using the derivative rules. For example,
3.1 #27, 33
3.3 # 11, 17, 35, 49
-Practice Problems for Quiz 3: 2.6 #51, #53, 2.7 # 19, #35
-All freshmen students should take this survey about the math placement test: https://illinois.edu/sb/sec/5271145 . It should only take a few minutes and must be done by Friday, Sept 9th. (It was extended a week past the original date).
-Practice problems for Quiz 2: 2.2 #19, 2.3 # 45, 51, 65 2.5 #21
